Chidori High, a boys' school predominantly attended by students with low grades, is loathed by Kikyo Girls' High, whose pupils mostly come from wealthy and prestigious families. Chidori student Rintaro Tsumugi has always had an intimidating appearance, so as other people have avoided him, he too has distanced himself from others.
One day, while Rintaro is helping at his family's patisserie, he meets a girl named Kaoruko, who tells him she has never once thought of him as "scary."
