The series centers around a con artist of many changing names and a young dragon named Efina who has the power to eat people's lies.
The novel serves as a prequel, wherein the pair's journey takes them to Indigo Town in the search for info on a legendary wish granting blue bird. There they quickly find themselves investigating mysterious circumstances in the town, seemingly connected a young singer and that mythical blue bird.
